A quiet temple scene flips the world on its head: a child in his mother’s arms, two elderly prophets, and a promise big enough for every nation. We close our Advent journey by tracing a beam of hope from Isaiah’s “Arise, shine” to Luke’s account of Jesus presented in the temple, where Simeon and Anna testify that God keeps His word in real time, among ordinary people who choose obedience over noise.

Lauren and I read Isaiah 60:1–3, then move through Luke 2:21–40, pausing on the details that matter: Mary and Joseph honoring the law, the Spirit guiding Simeon’s steps, the tenderness of blessing paired with the gravity of prophecy. “A light to reveal God to the nations” is not soft sentiment—it is rescue that exposes and heals. We talk about how true hope refuses denial: it reveals deep motives, pierces illusions, and still offers joy. Anna’s decades of prayer remind us that hidden faithfulness can fuel public courage, and that praise often begins in long, quiet rooms.

As we celebrate the birth of Jesus, we lean into watchfulness, prayer, and renewal. Expectancy becomes a daily ethic: read, reflect, act, and share. We thank you for walking with us through 25 days of Scripture and reflection, and we invite you to carry this light into your conversations, your choices, and your community. If the world feels dim, take heart—glory still rises over people who wait, worship, and welcome the King.

00:00:30.550 --> 00:00:33.509
Hey, welcome to Renewed Mindsets.

00:00:33.670 --> 00:00:36.310
I'm Rick, and I'm so glad you're here.

00:00:36.630 --> 00:00:38.390
Now, this is something special.

00:00:38.630 --> 00:00:49.269
For the next 25 days, we're gonna slow down, we're gonna quiet our hearts, and we're gonna turn our eyes towards Jesus as we walk through Advent together.

00:00:49.510 --> 00:00:58.709
Now, every day we'll take a few minutes to breathe and reflect and remember the hope that came into the world and the hope that's coming again.

00:01:03.109 --> 00:01:05.829
Hey, welcome back to Renewed Mindsets.

00:01:05.909 --> 00:01:09.989
We're about to wrap up the Advent Bible reading in the next couple days.

00:01:10.230 --> 00:01:12.310
I've got Lauren back with us today.

00:01:12.549 --> 00:01:13.909
Hey guys, good to be back.

00:01:14.230 --> 00:01:15.189
Isn't it awesome?

00:01:15.349 --> 00:01:18.230
We get to close all this out with Lauren.

00:01:19.269 --> 00:01:26.629
Um, we're in John 3.16, of course everybody knows that one through verse 21.

00:01:27.109 --> 00:01:28.390
Go ahead.

00:01:28.790 --> 00:01:31.509
Hey, welcome back to Renewed Mindsets.

00:01:31.670 --> 00:01:34.789
This is the final day of the Advent Bible reading.

00:01:35.109 --> 00:01:40.149
Today it's light to the nations, and we've got a couple verses.

00:01:40.789 --> 00:01:46.310
Lauren and I are gonna tag team this one for you, and we'll talk to you after it's over.

00:01:46.469 --> 00:01:47.509
Go ahead, Lauren.

00:01:48.469 --> 00:01:52.469
So we're gonna be in Isaiah chapter 60, verses one through three.

00:01:52.789 --> 00:01:59.349
Arise, Jerusalem, let your light shine for all to see, for the glory of the Lord rises to shine on you.

00:01:59.590 --> 00:02:05.909
Darkness as black as night covers all the nations of the earth, but the glory of the Lord rises and appears over you.

00:02:06.149 --> 00:02:10.629
All nations will come to your light, mighty kings will come to see your radiance.

00:02:11.830 --> 00:02:16.710
So now we're also in Luke chapter two, verses twenty-one through forty.

00:02:17.590 --> 00:02:21.990
And we'll start off with where Jesus is presented in the temple.

00:02:22.870 --> 00:02:30.710
Eight days later, when the baby was circumcised, he was named Jesus, the name given to him by the angel even before he was conceived.

00:02:31.270 --> 00:02:37.430
Then it was time for their purification offering, as required by the law of Moses after the birth of a child.

00:02:37.669 --> 00:02:41.349
So his parents took him to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord.

00:02:41.669 --> 00:02:47.909
The law of the Lord says, if a woman's first child is a boy, he must be dedicated to the Lord.

00:02:48.229 --> 00:02:52.150
So they offered the sacrifice required by the law of the Lord.

00:02:52.389 --> 00:02:55.509
Either a pair of turtle doves or two young pigeons.

00:02:56.469 --> 00:02:58.310
The prophecy of Simeon.

00:02:59.109 --> 00:03:02.469
At that time there was a man in Jerusalem named Simeon.

00:03:02.629 --> 00:03:08.150
He was righteous and devout, and was eagerly awaiting for the Messiah to come and rescue Israel.

00:03:08.389 --> 00:03:14.789
The Holy Spirit was upon him, and had revealed to him that he would not die until he had seen the Lord's Messiah.

00:03:15.509 --> 00:03:17.909
That day the Spirit led him to the temple.

00:03:18.310 --> 00:03:24.549
So when Mary and Joseph came to present the baby Jesus to the Lord as the law required, Simeon was there.

00:03:24.949 --> 00:03:33.829
He took the child in his arms and praised God, saying, Sovereign Lord, now let your servant die in peace, as you have promised.

00:03:34.069 --> 00:03:38.310
I have seen your salvation, which you have prepared for all people.

00:03:38.870 --> 00:03:44.469
He is a light to reveal God to the nations, and he is the glory of your people Israel.

00:03:45.270 --> 00:03:48.710
Jesus' parents were amazed at what was being said about him.

00:03:49.030 --> 00:03:59.270
Then Simeon blessed them, and he said to Mary, the baby's mother, This child is destined to cause many in Israel to fall, and many others to rise.

00:03:59.590 --> 00:04:03.909
He has been sent as a sign from God, but many will oppose him.

00:04:04.150 --> 00:04:11.189
As a result, the deepest thoughts of many hearts will be revealed, and a sword will pierce your very soul.

00:04:12.310 --> 00:04:13.990
The prophecy of Anna.

00:04:14.789 --> 00:04:18.389
Anna, a prophet, was also there in the temple.

00:04:18.629 --> 00:04:25.030
She was the daughter of Fanuel, of the tribe of Asher, and she was very old.

00:04:25.509 --> 00:04:28.790
Her husband died when they had been married only seven years.

00:04:29.030 --> 00:04:32.310
Then she lived as a widow to the age of eighty-four.

00:04:32.550 --> 00:04:37.990
She never left the temple but stayed there day and night, worshiping God with fasting and prayer.

00:04:38.470 --> 00:04:44.230
She came along just as Simeon was talking with Mary and Joseph, and she began praising God.

00:04:44.470 --> 00:04:50.070
She talked about the child to everyone who had been waiting expectantly for God to rescue Jerusalem.

00:04:50.630 --> 00:04:58.230
When Jesus' parents had fulfilled all the requirements of the law to the Lord, they returned home to Nazareth in Galilee.

00:04:58.710 --> 00:05:01.350
There the child grew up healthy and strong.

00:05:01.510 --> 00:05:05.430
He was filled with wisdom, and God's favor was on him.

00:05:06.230 --> 00:05:06.870
Amen.

00:05:06.950 --> 00:05:09.350
We have made it to the end of Advent.

00:05:11.270 --> 00:05:12.550
I'm still sad about it.

00:05:13.030 --> 00:05:23.910
It is sad, but it's exciting because we read for 24 days and we led right up to this point, which is tomorrow when we celebrate the birth of our Savior.

00:05:24.150 --> 00:05:24.710
That's true.

00:05:24.790 --> 00:05:25.270
That's true.

00:05:25.510 --> 00:05:26.150
It is.

00:05:26.710 --> 00:05:28.950
So we love you.

00:05:29.189 --> 00:05:34.710
I appreciate everybody listening in every day and taking this journey with us.

00:05:34.950 --> 00:05:38.070
Uh mark your calendars next year, December 1st.

00:05:38.150 --> 00:05:42.790
We're going to just replay this because it's too good for everybody to only hear once.

00:05:43.030 --> 00:05:43.270
Yeah.

00:05:43.510 --> 00:05:45.030
So we'll see you.

00:05:45.750 --> 00:05:49.350
Well, we'll see you every week because we want you back every week.

00:05:49.510 --> 00:05:51.430
But Advent's again for another year.

00:05:51.670 --> 00:05:52.710
Enjoy your Christmas.

00:05:52.870 --> 00:05:54.390
Have a Merry Christmas.

00:05:54.630 --> 00:05:58.870
I hope the Lord blesses each and every one of you.

00:05:59.270 --> 00:06:00.390
Merry Christmas, y'all.

00:06:00.470 --> 00:06:01.350
I love you so much.

00:06:01.590 --> 00:06:02.070
Love you.

00:06:02.310 --> 00:06:02.710
Bye.

00:06:02.950 --> 00:06:03.590
Bye.
