When the world speeds up, we choose to slow down. Our Advent journey opens in an unexpected place—Genesis 3—where a whispered lie fractures trust, shame rushes in, and humanity starts to hide. Yet even there, a seed of hope appears: a promise that an offspring will crush the serpent’s head. We sit with that promise and let it shape how we prepare for Christmas and how we live as people who await Christ’s return.

We walk through the reading of Genesis 3:1–15 and talk about Advent as more than candles and carols. It’s a posture of anticipation, a daily decision to listen for God’s voice over the noise, and a commitment to watchfulness that changes how we move through our days. We unpack the protoevangelium—the first gospel hint in Scripture—and connect the garden’s ache to the manger’s joy and the future restoration of all things. Along the way, we name the subtle ways distrust creeps in, how shame pushes us into hiding, and how grace calls us back into the light.

This is a short, steady invitation to breathe, reflect, and practice holy readiness. Expect clear Scripture reading, honest encouragement, and a simple path to begin the next 25 days with intention. If you’ve been craving a quieter heart and a brighter hope, this series meets you right where you are—between Eden and eternity, waiting well for the One who came and the One who returns in glory.

Join us for Day 1 and share the journey with someone who needs hope. Subscribe, leave a rating or review, and send this episode to a friend so we can watch, pray, and stay renewed together.

00:00:56.299 --> 00:00:59.260
Hey, welcome to Renewed Mindsets.

00:00:59.340 --> 00:01:02.060
I'm Rick, and I'm so glad you're here.

00:01:02.299 --> 00:01:04.140
Now, this is something special.

00:01:04.299 --> 00:01:15.019
For the next 25 days, we're gonna slow down, we're gonna quiet our hearts, and we're gonna turn our eyes towards Jesus as we walk through Advent together.

00:01:15.260 --> 00:01:24.219
Now every day we'll take a few minutes to breathe and reflect and remember the hope that came into the world and the hope that's coming again.

00:01:28.780 --> 00:01:31.179
So, what exactly is Advent?

00:01:32.219 --> 00:01:36.379
Advent simply means arrival or the coming.

00:01:36.780 --> 00:01:43.259
For Christians, it's a sacred season of preparation, preparing our hearts for two things.

00:01:44.379 --> 00:01:55.259
It was for the first coming of Jesus, born in Bethlehem, the light entering our darkness, and the second coming of Jesus, when he'll return in glory to restore all things.

00:01:56.219 --> 00:02:05.420
Advent isn't just candles and carols, it's a daily posture of anticipation and expectation and preparation.

00:02:05.979 --> 00:02:10.539
We look back with gratitude and we look forward with urgency.

00:02:15.259 --> 00:02:17.580
All right, we've got Ashton here with us today.

00:02:17.659 --> 00:02:22.140
She's gonna do day one, she may do day two, she may do day three.

00:02:22.379 --> 00:02:23.180
Who knows?

00:02:23.420 --> 00:02:24.700
Ashton, how are you today?

00:02:24.939 --> 00:02:25.740
I'm great, Rick.

00:02:25.819 --> 00:02:26.219
How are you?

00:02:26.460 --> 00:02:26.939
Good, good.

00:02:27.020 --> 00:02:29.500
I'm so glad that you um you suggested this.

00:02:29.659 --> 00:02:37.340
I'd thought about doing it and didn't really have any motivation to do it, and then I saw you put it on the church page, and I said, Well, I guess now I know I have to.

00:02:37.419 --> 00:02:38.539
That was my second witness.

00:02:38.859 --> 00:02:39.659
Confirmation.

00:02:39.900 --> 00:02:40.379
All right.

00:02:40.539 --> 00:02:42.620
Well, if you want to go ahead and start us off, let's go.

00:02:42.780 --> 00:02:42.859
Sure.

00:02:43.099 --> 00:02:46.539
We're in Genesis chapter three, verses one through fifteen.

00:02:47.819 --> 00:02:49.659
The man and woman sin.

00:02:50.219 --> 00:02:54.699
The serpent was the shrewdest of all the wild animals the Lord God had made.

00:02:54.939 --> 00:03:01.979
One day he asked the woman, Did God really say you must not eat the fruit from any of the trees in the garden?

00:03:02.219 --> 00:03:06.060
Of course we may eat fruit from the trees in the garden, the woman replied.

00:03:06.299 --> 00:03:11.500
It's only the fruit from the tree in the middle of the garden that we are not allowed to eat.

00:03:11.819 --> 00:03:15.259
God said, You must not eat it or even touch it.

00:03:15.419 --> 00:03:17.259
If you do, you will die.

00:03:17.740 --> 00:03:20.859
You won't die, the serpent replied to the woman.

00:03:21.180 --> 00:03:28.299
God knows that your eyes will be opened, and as soon as you eat it, you will be like God, knowing both good and evil.

00:03:28.859 --> 00:03:30.620
The woman was convinced.

00:03:30.859 --> 00:03:34.379
She saw the tree was beautiful and its fruit looked delicious.

00:03:34.539 --> 00:03:36.620
She wanted the wisdom it would give her.

00:03:36.939 --> 00:03:39.659
So she took some of the fruit and ate it.

00:03:39.900 --> 00:03:44.139
Then she gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it too.

00:03:44.620 --> 00:03:50.219
At that moment, their eyes were opened, and they suddenly felt shame at their nakedness.

00:03:50.460 --> 00:03:53.419
So they sewed fig leaves together to cover themselves.

00:03:53.900 --> 00:04:00.539
When the cool evening breezes were blowing, the man and his wife heard the Lord God walking about in the garden.

00:04:01.259 --> 00:04:04.299
So they hid from the Lord God among the trees.

00:04:04.620 --> 00:04:07.979
Then the Lord God called to the man, Where are you?

00:04:08.460 --> 00:04:12.539
He replied, I heard you walking in the garden, so I hid.

00:04:12.699 --> 00:04:15.020
I was afraid because I was naked.

00:04:15.500 --> 00:04:17.500
Who told you you were naked?

00:04:17.740 --> 00:04:23.259
The Lord God asked, Have you eaten from the tree whose fruit I commanded you not to eat?

00:04:23.500 --> 00:04:29.100
The man replied, It was the woman you gave me who gave me the fruit and I ate it.

00:04:29.420 --> 00:04:32.939
Then the Lord God asked the woman, What have you done?

00:04:33.420 --> 00:04:36.939
The serpent deceived me, she replied, That's why I ate it.

00:04:37.340 --> 00:04:45.740
Then the Lord God said to the serpent, Because you have done this, you are cursed more than all animals, domestic and wild.

00:04:45.900 --> 00:04:56.700
You will crawl on your belly, groveling in the dust as long as you live, and I will cause hostility between you and the woman, and between your offspring and her offspring.

00:04:57.020 --> 00:05:01.180
He will strike your head, and you will strike his heel.

00:05:02.300 --> 00:05:05.660
All right, thanks for joining me today on Renewed Mindsets.

00:05:05.740 --> 00:05:09.820
As we walk through Advent, let's stay expectant.

00:05:10.140 --> 00:05:17.420
Let's stay watching, praying, and keeping our hearts ready for the one who came and the one who's coming again soon.

00:05:17.740 --> 00:05:18.700
I love you.

00:05:19.100 --> 00:05:23.580
Let's keep our minds renewed and our eyes on Jesus.

00:05:24.540 --> 00:05:28.860
The executive producer of Renewed Mindsets is Christy McCurry.

00:05:30.780 --> 00:05:37.420
That's all for today, but I'll be back with more unfiltered biblical truth and undeniable prophecy.

00:05:37.660 --> 00:05:39.660
The time to wake up is now.

00:05:39.980 --> 00:05:44.060
If today's episode challenged you, don't keep it to yourself.

00:05:44.300 --> 00:05:45.900
Tell someone, please.

Text them a link.

00:05:47.820 --> 00:05:50.140
